This week an active weather continue along the West Coast and has extended inland to the northern and central Rockies and will mostly bypass the southern Rockies and Desert Southwest. Locally from this activity we will catch some rain south of KS/NE border and snow to the north. We will see another system over the weekend then another next Wed/Thu as the trough out west moves eastward and pattern begins to break down to end the month. The active winter pattern has brought us over 3” of beneficial moisture, but not enough to bust the prolonged drought as resumed crop progress reports still have over 50% the winter wheat crop and 30% fair and topsoil subsoil moisture still remains over 60 to 70 percent short and very short.

Some patchy freezing drizzle this morning out along the KS/CO has a Winter WX Advisory in place for low visibilities and slick roads. This afternoon, tonight and tomorrow east and southeast flow will be in place with clouds ahead of a Pacific system that will bring some rain and snow tomorrow evening through Thursday morning. Rain likely south of KS/Ne border with snow to the north. Today and tomorrow will be colder with daytime temps in the 30’s to around 40 and lows in the 20’s. Thursday, Friday and Saturday temps warm into the 50’s and 60’s, Thursday night will be colder with lows around 20, while Friday and Saturday they are around 30. Next system arrives from the west Saturday night and Sunday.

Colder air moving and couple disturbances will bring chances for patchy freezing drizzle in Colorado tonight and tomorrow morning then some freezing rain, rain and snow chances mostly along and north Highway 36 Wednesday night and Thursday morning. Daytime temps will warm from upper 40’s to today drop into the 35-40-degree range tomorrow and Wednesday, then warm back into the mid to upper 40’s Thursday and Friday. Overnight temps will be in the 20’s.

Today and tomorrow skies will be partly cloudy to mostly sunny in the afternoons with northwest winds warm temps into the mid to upper 40’s and low 50’s. This evening and tonight a quick moving disturbance will result in a bit of light rain and snow. Sunday a lee-side trough will turn winds to a south-southeast direction gusting 40-50 mph and pushing temps into the 60’s. High -pressure Monday will lead to another decent day in the upper 40’s ahead of colder conditions and light snow chances Tuesday and Wednesday.

High pressure to start the day will lead to some decent temps in the 40’s ahead of a low-pressure system that moves through later tonight and tomorrow that has potential for 2” to 5” of snow accumulation from KS/NE border to along south of I-70. A WINTER STORM WATCH IS IN PLACE FOR THIS EVENING THROUGH TOMORROW EVENING. Tonight, Lows drop into the 20’s and colder temps in the low 30’s with some gusty winds 25+ mph may result in some areas of blowing snow. 40-degree weather and northwest winds for Friday and Saturday with some light snow Friday night with a weak disturbance working out of eastern Colorado. Sunday southerly flow will warm temps nicely into the 50’s.

Some AM fog then very windy and warm ahead of a trough and low that kicks out of the 4-Corners and moves through the southern Plains of Texas and towards Arkansas tomorrow night through Friday morning. Highs in upper 50’s today with gusty south winds 35+ mph and some blowing dust. Tonight, lows will drop into the low 20’s with increasing clouds and cooler temps in the 40’s tomorrow. Snow showers are possible Wednesday night and Thursday with some 2” to 5” accumulation. Colder below freezing temps on Thursday with 40-degree weather returns Friday and Saturday with some light snow Friday night with a weak disturbance working out of eastern Colorado.

Warm and windy conditions prevail the next couple days ahead of a trough and low that kicks out of the 4-Corners and moves through the southern Plains of Texas and towards Arkansas Wednesday night through Friday morning. Highs in the mid-50’s today with breezy northwest winds and tomorrow gusty south winds warm temps into the upper 50’s, while lows will be in the 20’s. Snow showers are possible Wednesday night and Thursday, mostly along and south of I-70, with some minor accumulation. Colder below freezing temps on Thursday with 40-degree weather on Wednesday and Friday with some clouds ahead and behind the main system.

Cold start this morning with temps in the lower single digits and wind chills below zero. This afternoon and tomorrow high-pressure slides further east over the area, turning winds to the south warming temps into the mid-30’s today and lower 50’s tomorrow. Sunday will warm into the 60’s and become windy ahead of an evening disturbance that will bring chances for showers and storms mainly along and east of highway 25. Monday will be a bit cooler in the 40’s with breezy north winds behind the system, while Tuesday warms back into the 59’s ahead of the next disturbance Wednesday evening.

WIND CHILL ADVISORY TO 12 PM with readings 15-25 below and temps 0 to 5 below to start the morning. Today high-pressure slides in behind the storm system moving off to the northeast U.S. allowing skies to clear but remains very cold with highs only in the teens and lows dropping into single digits. Friday and Saturday high-pressure slides further east, and winds turn to the south warming temps into the mid-30’s to near 50. Sunday remains warm then disturbance late in day and overnight brings chances for showers and storms mainly east of highway 25. Monday will be a bit cooler with breezy north winds behind the system.

A storm system last week brought another .50” to 1” moisture and an active pattern continues this week and next to end February and start March. The winter moisture is above normal, but we are still around 9” behind for the last 12 months and in drought. A shot of Arctic air today will be accompanied with and inch or two of snow later today and this evening with heavy snows in the northern plains, ice from Iowa to New England and severe weather on the Mississippi. Two more troughs and systems will come across the Rockies Sunday night and Monday and again Wednesday.
